Register.be becomes ICANN accredited registrar
Belgian company joins exclusive worldwide network

Register.be has received the official accreditation from ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). The Belgian domainname specialist has now the capability to register generic top-level domainnames (gTLD’s) without an intermediary. This accreditation is also an important prerequisite to actively participate in the liberalization of extensions organized by the ICANN in 2010, which will amongst others make it possible to have a regional extension such as .vla for Flanders.

As a specialist Register.be registers domain names worldwide in more than 200 countries. Thanks to the ICANN accreditation extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .biz can now be registered by Register.be without an intermediary.
"We are of course very happy with the accreditation by ICANN”, says Paul Janssens, managing director of Register.be. “It is the recognition of our experience and competence which we have built over the last 10 years as a domain name specialist."
Belgian multinationals such as UCB, Bekaert and BNP Paribas Fortis, but also the social network website Netlog and the communication agency LBi trust Register.be for the protection and management of their domainnames on the Internet.

An extension for everyone in 2010?
ICANN, the organization which manages the internet, has announced a total liberalization of extensions which will start in 2010. With this accreditation Register.be has made an important step towards playing an important role in this revolution.
"During the opening of the .be (2000), the .fr (2004) and the .eu (2006) extensions we have always made a huge step forward. We expect 2010 to be a grand cru year with the creation of new extensions such as .vla for Flanders, .eco for environmental friendly companies or .paris for the inhabitants of the French capital. With our ICANN accreditation we are in pole position to actively participate in these new markets."
